Not only is the construction industry across Europe facing major challenges in achieving their energy efficiency targets, but they are also experiencing a digital revolution, with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital knowledge transfer [EU BIMTaskforce] . The BIMzeED project intends to improve the human-capital basis of the construction sector, which is identified as a strategic initiative by the European Commission [COM (2012) 433] , acting on HEIs and VET systems in Europe. The BIMzeED project will address these barriers to ensure that the construction industry can effectively catch up with energy efficient technical innovation and digitalization through training. BIMzeED believes it is important to devote greater attention to BIM to assist with achieving cost effective energy efficient construction in the industry, and will develop and pilot new educational and training content (Learning Units) to collaboratively combine BIM and nZEB understandings with existing construction training curricula. It is intended to update and add to existing training modules in the higher education institutes HEIs curricula (degree courses), to capitalize on the opportunities that environmental protection can offer the labour force [Cedefop] . To ensure that the construction industry is ready to advance smoothly into this area, BIMzeED will train and upskill educators at European HEIs and VETs by piloting the new learning resources and training materials and provide unique transferrable Learning Units to existing programmes with flexible standardised delivery. It will work with various professionals, SMEs, Industry, product and technology providers, R&D and policy makers pivotal in the construction supply chain to embrace digital transformation to support a profitable and low carbon future. BIMzeED targets existing construction students, site managers, craftworkers and other experienced operatives through updated trai
• Transfer knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and NZEB to and from other countries.• Strengthen links between lecturers, industry and SMEs with innovative technologies and installations creating connected learning communities (viewing case studies, on-site site visits, industry demonstrations)• Strengthen employability in teaching and SMEs, known as business development cooperation. Update the knowledge and skills of Educators and Trainers, Students and SMEs in the field

<< Background >> The BIMzeED project intends to improve the human-capital basis of the construction sector, which is identified as a strategic initiative by the European Commission, acting on HEIs and VET systems in Europe to achieve energy efficiency targets, for nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB). The project will support the construction industry, through education and training to upskill on technical innovation &digitalization with Building Information Modelling by working with SMEs to tackle mismatches << Objectives >> • Transfer knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and NZEB to and from other countries.• Strengthen links between lecturers, industry and SMEs with innovative technologies and installations creating connected learning communities (viewing case studies, on-site site visits, industry demonstrations)• Strengthen employability in teaching and SMEs, known as business development cooperation. Update the knowledge and skills of Educators and Trainers, Students and SMEs in the field << Implementation >> BIMzeED has trained and upskilled more than 120 educators at European HEIs and VETs by piloting the new learning resources and training materials, which are available as transferrable Learning Units on the moodle eLearning platform. BIMzeED piloted 12 Learning Units with approximately 400 construction students, site managers, craftworkers and other experienced operatives, therefore, improving their employability. << Results >> Output 1 has established a Roadmap which defines the nZEB and BIM skills shortage and mismatch in the EU construction work market and in existing educational programmes at VETs and HEIs. Output 2: 12 LUs integrate nZEB and BIM topics to be compatible with existing HEIs and VET programs. Each LU is developed as Open Educational Resources (OERs) in a format to facilitate all HEIs and VETs. Output 3: A cost-effective secure open E-Learning portal is established with access to the LUs.
