Project summary

Starting by the assumption according to which education represents the main tool able to mold citizens aware of their surroundings, active and capable of social transformation, in these last decades a new approach parallel to the standard education started to grow: by the end of the '60s, non-formal edication has been found to be the holistic solution to the needs and interests of marginalized people or those who are the most alienated from the official and formal education system. Associations involved in this proposal are strictly connected by the use of non-formal education to reach their vision and mission related to the capacity building of youth, international volunteering and social inclusion of people with fewer opportunities. In order to improve the quality of the work done on these topics, they identified three objectives to act on with this proposal: 1. to empower the associations involved and their active volunteers; 2. to increase the effectiveness and the efficiency of project partners; 3.to create synergies among Partner and Programme organizations working on the topics through non-formal education. Activities identified to be the most suitable in order to reach the mentioned objectives are: 1. Learning Seminar in Italy on capacity building and social inclusion; 2. Seminar and Training in Uruguay on ludopedagogy; 3. Training in Sri Lanka on theatre of the oppressed and forum theatre; 4. Peer University in Mexico on popular education; 5. Jobshadowing in Italy to support the dissemination of the project and the preparation of the Final Event through the organization of 2 micro-events; 6. three days of Final Event in Italy. Participants, selected by their sending organization taking into consideration different aspects as to guarantee a well balanced composition of each group, are youth workers or active volunteers of partner organizations. Impacts will reach different target groups: at first the youth, activists and core volunteers of associations who will gain new skills and capabilities on alternative pedagogy as to deal with different target groups. Their competences, reinvested within the operability of the same consortium members, will benefit as well their linked networks and partners in terms of major effectiveness of the common actions and new project proposals. Indirect beneficiaries reached by the project will be partners of project consortium and many individuals, associations, local institutions thanks to the outcomes: the freely usable OER platform working as a sort of tool-kit with the material used and produced during each activity and the EduMAP, an online interactive map containing graphic descriptions of the worldwide realities and associations working in capacity building and social inclusion through non-formal education. Project results and outcomes will be presented during a three days Final Event, participated by almost 300 people also thanks to its previous promotion during the 2 micro-events organized.

Final report summary

"EduMapping: Alternative Pedagogy for Capacity Building and Social Inclusion", is a project aiming to improve the quality of work carried on capacity building of youth and social inclusion by increasing organizations’ and their youth workers’ capacities as well as by fostering cooperation among them, while enhancing synergies among various actors working on related and complementary topics. Thus, the project responds to the need of enhancing the management, governance, and innovation capacity of youth organizations while improving the way these carry out initiatives for youths. The project is the result of the synergies within the consortium (SCI Italia, SCI Catalunya, SCI Sri Lanka, VWAN Nigeria, CVS Bulgaria, Liscìa, Laboratorio 53, Eduraduno, La Mancha and Otros Mundos), starting from common needs – youth workers enhancement, knowledge sharing, network fostering or creation – and finding the best matching between activities and outcomes to meet them. Although each partner involved in the project got specialized in some non-formal learning methodology, the need to get more and more professional while sharing both knowledge and practical tools is still predominant. Following this level, this project is an opportunity to allow youth workers from each organization to professionalize their path, enriching their capabilities and sharing their knowledge. In addition to that, thanks to the realization of the OER Platform, that will constitute an archive of the material collected and used during the activities (and their aftermath), the project is able to respond to the need to share skills and competences related to non-formal education (www.edumapping.org).Each organization involved identified their own youth worker participants for the activities of the project.
