Project summary

Myanmar and Vietnam both have increasing growth energy consumption however limited supply to cater the increasing demand. Lighting is large and rapidly growing source of electricity demand in both countries. Most of the current lighting design, lamps and lighting technologies used are inefficient. There is a need of technical expertise and experience in the field of energy efficient and smart lighting systems to accelerate energy efficiency and demand side management. The main objective of the project is to improve the accessibility and quality of higher education in the field of energy efficient and smart lighting systems at universities in Vietnam and Myanmar in order to reduce the electricity consumption and minimize the environmental impacts related to increased energy use. The project aims to enhance the relevance of higher education for labour market and society by providing education and training reflecting the needs of the local labour market. The direct target groups of the project are 1) undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students 2) Trainers, educators, and teachers; 3) Academics in the advanced lighting field. Final beneficiaries of the project are professionals in the building industry chain, lighting industry equipment producers and lighting efficiency service providers, and government officials, energy regulators, NGOs.The project intends to upgrade the existing courses and design new courses in energy efficient lighting to train the manpower needed for the development of each partner country. The proposed project actions are also aimed at enabling teaching staff to receive upgraded training of skills as well as knowledge, provide them with the state of art tools for education and learning, improve their pedagogical and methodical capacities, provide international exposure and experience, and establish linkage and corporation among academic institution, industry, and policy makers.

The aim was to enhance the relevance of higher education for labour market and society by providing education and training reflecting the needs of the local labour market. << Implementation >> The project was implimented in Vietnam ( Myanmar was withdrawn because of civil war in county) through several activities divided in five different work packages (WPs). Activities under WP1, WP3, WP4, and WP5 were related to need assessment, quality plan, dissemination & outreach, and project management. The core activities were in WP2, including the development of new and modified courses, establishment of laboratory facilities, training of teachers and implimentation of the courses. << Results >> The project was able to upgrade the existing courses as well as design and implement new courses in energy efficient lighting in Vietnam. It was also able to provide the partner institutions in Vietnam access to state of art tools for education and learning ( labs, softwares) to improve pedagogical and methodical capacities. Other results included the upgrading skills of teachers and establishment of links with industry and society.
